The Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum ヴァンジ彫刻庭園美術館 in Mishima 三島市 is quick ride by Shinkansen from Tokyo and well worth a visit. The museum houses almost 50 sculptures by Giuliano Vangi; I was skeptical to visit a museum dedicated to just one artist, but Vangi’s sculptures are each so full of personality that I found this to be one of my favorite museums in the greater Tokyo area.
Added to the charms of the museum is the location. Perched high on Mt. Ashitaka 愛鷹山 above Mishima, make sure you visit this museum on a sunny day, as the views are great.
